Turkish Presidency: We made important gains at the Quartet Summit in Madrid
The head of the communications department in the Turkish presidency, Fahrettin Altun, said that his country has achieved tangible, specific and important gains in the fight against terrorism, during the four-way summit held in the Spanish capital, Madrid.
The summit brought together Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, his Finnish counterpart Sauli Niinistö, and Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson, as well as NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
In a statement, Altun added, “All parties in the Quartet Summit recognized the necessity of cooperating together against the terrorist PKK organization and its various branches,” stressing: “We achieved concrete, specific and important gains on our concerns related to the fight against terrorism, during the Quartet Summit.”
He explained that Finland and Sweden pledged to stand by Turkey against all manifestations of terrorism, and not to support the YPG/PKK and Gulen terrorist organizations.
He also noted that the two countries also pledged to lift sanctions and restrictions imposed on Turkish defense industries, and to strengthen cooperation with Ankara in this field.
He stressed the importance of mentioning the “FETO” terrorist organization at one point along with other terrorist organizations, such as YPD/PKK/YPG, describing this as a “clear victory”.
On Tuesday, Turkey, Sweden and Finland signed a tripartite memorandum of understanding regarding the two countries’ membership in NATO, on the sidelines of the bloc’s summit in the Spanish capital, Madrid.
